COACH DEVELOPMENT

Clinics are an important part of a coach's development. Below is the minimum level of certification required for all GFEMHA coaching staff.

If you have valid Coaching certification and it needs to be crossed over, please contact the GFEMHA office.

Please check back here in the summer to see if we will be hosting any coaching clinics this year, otherwise, please check the OMHA & Alliance websites for other local clinics.

Respect in Sport (Speak Out)
This is a required component for ALL team officials (Coaches, Trainers, Managers and On Ice Helpers). This course focuses on the prevention of bullying, harassment and abuse in the game of hockey.

Intro to Coach: Canadian Hockey Initiation Program
Minimum requirement for coaching Beginners, Pre-Novice and Novice House League
This clinic focuses on the foundation of skill development for hockey
The objectives of this program are to provide a fun, safe, and positive environment to learn the basic skills of hockey
Clinic length - 6 hours
No expiry

Coach Stream:
Minimum requirement for coaching House League & Select - Atom through Midget.
(A coach holding Development 1 certification, who wishes to coach House League, would not be required to obtain Coach Level/Stream certification)
Clinic length - 8 hours, including a 1-hour ice session focusing on technical skills
3 year expiry (OMHA only) / No expiry for Alliance

Development 1 (D1):
Requirement for Coaching at the Representative level
Clinic length - 2-eight hour sessions, including a 2-hour ice session on Day 2. The on-ice sessions implements the Drill Progression designed in class. Coaches will act as players for the other coaches running through their practices

Coaches Development Program
