Beginner Program (Greater Fort Erie Minor Hockey)

PrintBeginner Program

INITIATION/BEGINNERS HOCKEY PROGRAM

This program is an introduction to hockey for first year players and other early aged players in need of development. The program will begin in early October and finish in March.  Equipment will be provided with the exception of a stick, helmet, jock/jill and mouth guard. The equipment handed out is to be returned at the end of the season. The program will focus primarily on FUN and basic skills and includes a six week power skating component.

Ice times will be once a week on Saturday mornings with the exception of the tournament weekends and Christmas break when there is no ice times.

I would like to start by taking a moment to extend a huge thank you to those involved with the organizing and running of this years beginner program.  The entire season ran absolutely perfectly! We were always well informed of any changes to the schedule and any upcoming events and I can only imagine the hours of work that goes into something like this.   Also, an extra special thank you to the coaches.  It takes a very special person to volunteer their own time on a Saturday morning (at 8am no less!!).  They were always fun, friendly, happy and great with the kids and we are so appreciative.

My 5 year old son absolutely loved the program.  It gave him a great taste of what to expect when he starts playing hockey so he won’t be completely unfamiliar with what is involved.  It certainly inspired a love of the game since I’ m already hearing about how he can’t wait until its hockey season again. I can’t think of one thing that I would change about this program. All I can say is keep up the good work!

Thank You Again,
Jenn P.

This 2014/15 season was my son's first year with the Beginners program and he had a blast!  Ryan is 5 years old, he was enrolled in CanSkate last
season and we wanted to sign him up in house league hockey but thought he would benefit from a skills program first.

The Beginners program was a perfect choice.  My family would like to thank the staff, volunteers and especially Mr. Coopman and the coaches for providing the time to run this program.  Ryan is really looking forward to graduating to house league play for next season and the Beginners program has built his confidence to do so.

Thanks,
Chris G.

It was my child's first year in hockey and we couldn't ask for a better hockey program than this. We had a GREAT experience! Definitely will continue with you guys!

Last fall my four year old son was interested in trying hockey but was shy and nervous. I was told about the new beginner program that Fort Erie Hockey was starting and it was perfect. Only once a week, beginner skating and hockey drills with no pressure and a family atmosphere. After the first practice my six year old son who had for the last two years said no to hockey decided to join his little brother and play. Now i've got two sons who can't wait till next year where they'll be in novice and pre novice with their friends. Thanks to the beginner program which made it easy and affordable for my boys to try hockey and now we are a hockey family.

Awesome program, couldn't have asked for anything more, my son loved it, and developed skills quickly. A great staff that made sure the kids had fun and took the time to work with them individually and as a group to help them learn the basic skating and puck handling skills. Highly recommend this program to any child and parents who think their kids may enjoy the game of hockey.
